Whorled Milkweed - Asclepias verticillata - Plant

This is a petite and pretty plant. Don't be fooled by it's size-- it's the most toxic of the milkweeds. This plant doesn't readily re-seed itself.  You may have to plant it each year. The delicate flowers can be white or green. Whorled milkweed is drought tolerant, so you can put this one in some of your drier patches. It's called "whorled" because the leaves grow in a whorled pattern around the stem.  Imagine a spiral staircase of thin, long leaves. The plant grows on a single stem and can grow from 1 to 3 feet high.

Note: this milkweed should not be grown near pets and livestock.
