Monarch (Danus plexippus) on Tropical milkweed

Buzzing Blossoms Grand Opening!

@buzzingblossoms.com

Welcome and thanks for visiting! Buzzing Blossoms started as a blog where we tracked the pollinators and plants in our garden.  But now it has become much more. After spending several seasons trying to improve the monarch butterfly situation in our own front yard, we realized that we cannot do this alone. The front yard is a tiny island of food, and when the monarchs ( or any pollinators ) leave the yard, they have nothing to eat and nowhere to raise children. On top of the lack of food and host plants, the plants we are providing to monarchs are actually making them sicker!

So now we're on a mission! Provide healthy plants for all of the pollinators. Sounds easy enough, right?

It hasn't been easy. Finding the right kind of milkweed has been close to impossible. Big box stores sell Asclepias curassavica (Tropical Milkweed or Mexican Butterfly Weed) almost exclusively, and not only that but they have been providing mislabeled plants.  Some plants falsely claim to be "Florida Native" milkweeds!

Don't be fooled. Let's all get educated and find a way to make monarchs healthy. And let's make our pollinator gardens lush and beautiful for all of the insects.

At this shop, we'll provide native seeds from plants grown right here in Florida. We use no pesticides or inorganic fertilizers, so all of our plants and seeds will be safe for pollinators.

In the next 5 years, we would like to be able to provide Floridians with all of the milkweed they will ever need for their pollinator gardens. Becoming a grower takes some time and patience, so to start we are selling seeds from our favorite homegrown native and Florida-friendly plants (all pesticide free).

While we start this venture, we'll also be keeping up with this blog and finding other ways to help educate ourselves as well as our followers. Expect to see info about our favorite beneficial insects, plant and insect interactions, and products and events that may be of interest to our readers.
