Butterfly Weed - Asclepias tuberosa - plant

These reddish orange flowers may look similar to those of Tropical Milkweed, but don't be confused. The flowers of A. tuberosa can be orange or reddish, but they won't be more than one color, unlike A. currassavica which usually has multicolored flowers ( petals are red and the hoods are yellow). The leaves of butterfly weed are thicker, narrower, and shorter than the longish, delicate leaves of tropical milkweeds.  The seed pods of butterfly weed are fuzzy, unlike the smooth pods of tropical milkweed. 

This one occurs naturally in dry, sandy soil, so if you have a sandy spot in your yard try placing butterfly weed there.
