White Swamp Milkweed - Asclepias perennis - Seed

White Swamp Milkweed, also known as Aquatic milkweed, is the flower you and your monarchs need for those boggy areas of your garden. If you have a pond or an especially soggy spot, this is the milkweed for you. The flowers are white, but before they fully open, the corollas may appear as pink. Bloom time is May through September.  The leaves are long, narrow, and a deeper green than some of our other milkweed species. Start this one in the fall.  The seed germinates relatively easily and you can get a mature plant in 3 to 4 months. Flowers may not appear until the second year.

You can grow these in pots, and the amount of stems you get is relative to the size of the container.  Bigger container = more stems. This is a cold hardy species.

Don't confuse this species with Asclepias incarnata, aka Swamp Milkweed or Pink Swamp Milkweed. This is much shorter than Swamp Milkweed.
